Can’t really say the day went smoothly… I started the day with a silver project, I was an hour in my work that I ran out of oxygene! Now for those of you who are not jewellers, I reassure you I was still breathing… the oxygene comes in a bottle and is used mixed with gas for soldering with a torch. No oxygene means no soldering, means no work on silver, means gotta find another project for the day, now, quick, it’s already 11am… It’s hard to shift your attention once you got started on something… then realised the place where I get the oxygene from might be open until noon, I phone, yes it is. I drive up, swap the bottle for a new full one, the shop attendant says “do you want one with a handle?”, “yes please” I say. Come home, go to install it. Can’t. The supplier has changed the handle: this new one doesn’t allow me to screw the fitting… aarghgh! that means I’ll have to go back on Monday, swap the bottle – again – for one with no handle. That means, no soldering for the weekend. Back to square one. Find a new project. It’s 12noon, hungry, fridge almost empty, scavenge the last potato and carrot… meanwhile the washing machine has decided to give its last breath, after more than 10 years of loyal service, rats. So that was morning
Afternoon: let’s keep it simple. Threading gum nuts is simple. Ok let’s do that. Well, I started at 1pm and finished at 7pm. That’s a lot of time to express simplicity!! that’s the time it takes to thread the necklace more than 4 times: wrong thread, wrong lenght, wrong location of beads, not enough of those beads, too many on this side, necklace too short, no more of those beads, need spacers, got it all together now, finished. Let’s decide to stamp my logo on a wood spacer – I know, what a silly idea – smashed the spacer. Gotta find another one… there’s none. Gotta make a new one, or 4 new ones in the case. Re-thread. DONE! Photographed, DONE! Write the post: I’m doing it, it’s 8.55pm and I haven’t had any diner yet. I had afternoon tea: thank god there’s peanut butter, Lindt chocolate, coffee for survival! and breakfast cereal for diner for comfort food 🙂
oh I think the Frenchies who can’t read english will have to wait til tomorrow to get their translation – I’m starving!
