A mysterious found object got himself a new life today. I worked with the material, some remnant of the industrial era, and the shape to come up with a design that evolved and developed as I was working on it – “ad lib”… This expression came to my mind as a lover of jazz and as a memory of the time of my early twenties when I played alto saxophone for a few years.
Note: “ad lib”, also “ad libitum.” A notation on written music that gives the performer freedom to vary the notes or tempo; in jazz it typically means to improvise freely (from jazz glossary)
Un objet mystérieux a pris une nouvelle vie aujourd’hui. J’ai travaillé avec le matériau, un résidu de l’ère industrielle, et la forme pour arriver à un design qui a évolué et s’est développé au fur et à mesure que j’y travaillais – “ad lib”… Cette expression m’est venue à l’esprit en tant qu’amateur de jazz et comme un souvenir de l’époque où j’avais une vingtaine d’années et jouait du saxophone alto.
